Introduced
in 1950 the Mark VII brought together all the new components that the company
had been working on postwar, clothed in a very stylish 5-seater four-door
saloon body style. An entirely new in-house designed and built 3.4 litre twin
cam twin carburettor XK engine was always intended for this model and along
with a new independent front suspension chassis, made the car an amazing performer for its size. So much so
that it was highly successful in rallying and racing under the helm of well
known drivers like Stirling Moss and Mike Hawthorn.
In the mid-1950s the model was revised to become the Mark VIIM, with increased performance from the engine, plusher seating, revised trim and available with both the option of overdrive on 4th gear or automatic transmission.
