The DS420 was announced in April 1968, based on the Mark X/420G floorpan. It was offered in Limousine form and as a chassis for bespoke coachmakers. It was initially built at the Vanden Plas Coachworks in London and sold through normal Daimler channels but VDP closed in 1981 and it was brought in house to Browns Lane.
Production ceased in 1992 by which time a total of 5,043 had been built a good number for such a specialist vehicle, very popular in the diplomatic and funeral trades it still has an elegance sadly lacking in today's stretched cars.
