Welcome to the Tamar Region of the Jaguar Enthusiasts' Club
Established in 1990 as the Plymouth Region, the club name was changed to Tamar Region a few years ago to more accurately reflect the locality of the membership, which comprises approximately a 50/50 split between Cornish based and Devon based members. Our catchment area roughly covers a radius of 40 miles from the river Tamar. However, with the demise of the Cornwall region, the club welcomes members from across Cornwall.
Club nights are held on the first Thursday of the month (except January) at the Who'd Have Thought It Inn, St Dominick, Cornwall, PL12 6TG and are friendly, sociable affairs, with partners playing a prominent part in the running of the club. Our club newsletter, the Jagazine, has progressed from a single A4 sheet to a 12 page all colour production, issued every three months.
Some of the most popular events organised by the club are our Sunday or mid week runs. These always feature a lunch at a pub or restaurant, with sometimes the extra bonus of a visit to a local place of interest – of course, being in a tourist area we are spoilt for choice when selecting a venue and usually have a scenic drive to get there!
Membership has remained fairly constant, averaging about 40 per year – but there is always room for improvement and new members are always made welcome! The annual subscription of £16.50 per year represents very good value and provides the basic funding for the club, as we have no sponsorship deals to subsidise our activities.
The variety of Jaguar/Daimler cars in our club ranges from early XKs to the latest models. Some of our members have had their cars featured in film productions – our area is a favourite film location - and there are several award winning cars in the club, as well as many daily drivers.
Our members have a diversity of skills and knowledge of Jaguars which they are pleased to impart as and when the occasion arises; this extends to the loan of tools, help with replacement parts held ‘in stock’ in their garages and even physical assistance where necessary.
Some of the many activities enjoyed by club members include quiz nights, skittles matches, club barbeque, weekend trips away, Christmas dinner, visits to the Jaguar factory, practical skills visits to local mechanics, local dealer visits, guest speakers, tours of local businesses and places of interest (e.g. St Austell Brewery, Princess Yachts, Haynes Motor Museum, Port Eliot, Bodmin Jail, etc.) The club attends local car shows and national JEC events.
Over the years, we have enjoyed several joint events and outings with our neighbouring clubs, particularly with Devon Region, who in turn have supported our own activities.
The club holds its own annual Tamar Jaguar Day at Buckland Abbey, a National Trust property and the former home of Sir Francis Drake, situated a few miles north of Plymouth.
If you are a JEC member, live in our area and have not yet come along to our club night or a local event, please give us a try. You will find we are a lively, friendly and sociable group of people with a common interest – JAGUARS!
