A New Venue and A Different Approach
Having an actual car, and indeed THE car, to discuss in this talk was something new. But the great display of other Jaguars added a lot to the evening, where the weather allowed considerable outside time and thus the opportunity to also examine 2 examples of the XJSs' predecessor, the E-Type.
Afterwards, everyone migrated indoors and hit the bar before settling in for Darren's talk,
Darren, Supported By Karen, Carl and David Delivered A Captivating Talk
The Region Chairman had agreed with Darren that it would not be one of those '"I did this and then this, and then this" talks. Instead, Darren focused upon the surprises found, the unexpected challenges, the strenuous efforts he had to put in to soyurcing the correct parts, the physical constraints and the eventual joys.
David noted what an exemplary standard or restoration that the three had collectively delivered and that the car would be the main feature of the JEC's presence at the NEC Classic Car Show, to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the XJS.
Certainly, The Attendees Enjoyed The Stories
It became clear that the XJS is actually, technically, Karen's !! But Darren is well satisfied with the result and does still have 2 other XJSs....
Carl passed on some very ibteresting information - and tips - about the painting of the car too.
An interesting - and amusing - Q&A session rounded off the evening itself.
The JEC Oxfordshire Region uses these talk to raise funds for the chosen year's charity. This year it is Crohn's and Colitis UK and a very much appreciated £120 was raised.
A great evening. There will be 2 more 'Car Talks' in 2025.
