Whitby Trip - 3 APRIL 2019

A Fantastic day out in Whitby organised by Phil Cheetham, and enjoyed by the crews of nine Jaguars from the Derbyshire Region.

You may have heard of the Cannonball Run this was the Derbyshire equivalent “ The Fish n Chip Run”. During the winter months we decided to have a run out in the sunshine to the seaside, for those not familiar with our beautiful county it is about as far from the sea that you can get in the UK. It was decided on Whitby on the 3rd April with an overnight stay for those who wanted a longer break.

We awoke to see beautiful sunshine. Our first rendezvous point was the Engine Shed café at The Steam and Moorland garden centre just outside Pickering https://www.steamandmoorland.c... . Despite junction 30 of the M1 being closed we did all arrive in good time for coffee and breakfast, 9 cars. The café is a good stop off point for those travelling to that part of the country.

We set off from the café at 11:00 am to visit Mathewson’s Classic Car Auctions https://mathewsons.co.uk just down the road at Thornton Le Dale. Hartley was contacted by a film company making a TV series at the auction house to see if we would agree to be filmed and interviewed as part of our arranged visit. As we pulled into the public car park in Thornton Le Dale we were filmed by the camera man. (Photo 1) The TV programme is called Bangers and Cash and will be broadcast on Yesterday from April 18th, hopefully we will make the cut. The car park is in a former walled garden which sheltered us from the wind in the beautiful sunshine. We had a short stroll to Mathewson’s to look at a variety of cars they had for auction including a few Jaguars. After an interesting visit we met back at the car park at noon for the drive over to Whitby in the beautiful sunshine.

After a couple of miles we pulled into the Saltergate car park for a minute to look at the views of the stunning North York Moors and across to the Hole of Horcum. We continued our drive over the moors in convoy to Whitby, I think everyone agreed the weather made all the difference. It was a great pleasure to drive our beautiful cars together on a stunning route in fantastic weather. Whitby was quite busy but we all managed to park together down the far end of the quay side car park. (Photos 2 and 3). Everyone was then free to do their own thing for the rest of the day, some of us headed for the nearest recommended Fish and Chip restaurant! It was a lovely sunny day to walk around Whitby, some tackling the steep steps to the Church and Abbey on the South Cliff, others just wandering the ancient streets and the harbourside. (Photo4)

Some made their way home later in the day while others headed to their hotel rooms for the night. Overall everyone attended had a great day out in the gorgeous April sunshine.
