On Tuesday 4th April, through our Chairman Ed , JEC NI was invited to the Lowden Guitar Factory at Crossgar. We had our best ever attendance with 36 members present....
The company was founded by George Lowden in the early 70's and his son Daniel greeted us after which he showed us around on the evening.
He explained how the company has constantly evaluated, developed and refined throughout the decades striving for perfection with no short cuts and great attention to detail. He said their success was down to their curvy and smooth sound boxes, carefully-voiced internal bracing giving warm resonance and that the real star is the wood they use which comes from all over the world. A hand rubbed satin finish gives a smooth playable feel.
Daniel said that stars like Paul Brady, Gary Lightbody, Ed Sheeran and Van Morrison all play the Lowden brand with some early numbered guitars changing hands for £40k!
The company employs 80 people and has produced 26,000 guitars which are exported all over the world. Another big success for this small province.
A very enjoyable evening was had. On the way home we stopped for coffee and tray bakes at The Edit cafe in Saintfield. A perfect finish to the evening.
