Over 20 members attended with the good weather bringing out a great selection of old and new Jaguars.
We were greeted when we arrived by Ray and his girlfriend Anne Marie and by Ray’s landlord Leslie Miller, who himself is a keen classic car enthusiast.
After the introductions Ray ushered us into his meticulously kept workshop showing us two of the etypes he had in for restoration. He described the build up process, using the floor mounted Jig starting with a floor pan, then welding in the front bulkhead followed by the alignment of the sills.
He then demonstrated on two pieces of metal first shrinking all their edges and rolling them out on an English Wheel, then folding their edges and trimming them. He welded the edges together, tinning and body soldering the seam making it into a curved shaped single piece of metal.
While Anne Marie was busy in the kitchen making tea and coffee we were all encouraged to participate by taking turns at the various tasks Ray had shown us I think most of us could have stayed there until dark soaking up all Rays knowledge and tips.
Ray and Anne Marie then joined us for dinner later that afternoon back at the hotel. Fantastic experience and a big thanks to Ray.
