Out and about
The weather in Grampian Region was less than conducive over the past few weeks and months and getting out and about in the cars was a bit dreich, to say the least. Whilst we didn’t have an organised Regional outing during April, 6 couples from Grampian did participate in the Drive It Weekend arranged by Jim Mann at the end of April and, surprisingly, the weather actually turned up to the party with sunshine over all 3 days. The Saturday Gathering was at the Boness and Kinneil Railway, which is also home to the Scottish Railway Preservation Society and what a hidden gem that turned out to be. There was a 70-minute, steam engine hauled, train ride to enjoy, a station buffet serving perfect fare for lunch and an absolutely huge museum and workshop to explore, which requires at least a full day to take in. On Sunday, there was a 90-mile drive through the Trossachs, with its phenomenal scenery to enjoy, before sitting down to a roast Sunday lunch at the Atholl Palace Hotel in Pitlochry, which definitely got the thumbs up from everyone there.
Coming up in the next few weeks will be the Perth City Classic Car display – a car show where you don’t have to park in a muddy field - and that will be followed in mid-June by our first lunchtime run out to a favourite Deeside hostelry, so get your name in with Steve Cromar to enjoy that one.
