Oakamoor Hillclimb

Oakamoor is a small village by the Staffordshire/Derbyshire border, that traces its motorsport heritage back to 1905 when the hill running out of the village was used as a test for motor vehicles. A few years ago, the decision was taken to utilise the easing of road closure orders to resuscitate the hillclimb. And what an event it has turned into, with over 100 entries from a 1912 Crossley 20hp Competition Car to a 2017 Tesla. Some of the Derbyshire region ventured out to enjoy the action.

The Jaguar marque was well represented with 2 XK120's, an XK140, a D Type, an E Type and an XK R, plus at least one Jaguar engined Special. And they all did the marque proud with spirited drives up the hill, especially the XKR!.

The road surface is far from smooth, as more than one driver found out, with a very steep 1:4 gradient just after the startline with a blind right hand bend thrown in for good measure!

The party atmosphere continued in the paddock area, with even more amazing cars there for display purposes, including a Lotus Type 79 Grand Prix car!

This event, held for the benefit of Staffordshire Clubs for Young People continues to go from strength to strength and is a thoroughly good day out.
