Sunday 21st April was Drive It Day and a first chance for us to get out and about as a JEC Region. And, in a pleasant change compared to the last few months, it didn’t rain.
We all met up around midday at The Derwent Arms, Edmondbyers in Co. Durham. From there we took in a spectacular drive via the near empty roads that criss-cross the hills on the border between Co Durham and Northumberland, before stopping for a coffee and cake at the Falls Café near Barnard Castle.
Suitably refreshed, we continued our drive through Northumberland to our final destination of the Wellington Hotel in Riding Mill, near Hexham, where we enjoyed some excellent food and drink.
After the meal it was time to return home after a wonderful day out in the company of great friends. Thanks must once again go to Peter and Janice Johnson, whose choice and planning of the route and venues was as impeccable as ever.
If you’re based in the North East, why not come along to our next (or indeed any) meeting and there you will be guaranteed a warm welcome. It’s a great chance to make new friends with a common interest in our favourite cars. Further details are in the Regions Directory section of this magazine.
