Sunday 18th August saw 8 Jaguars leave Banchory for our annual Ladies’ Day outing. We headed over the B974 Cairn o’ Mount road in excellent weather, with the views over Angus and the Mearns hazy rather than the usual foggy! Dropping down to Fettercairn, Edzell and Brechin we took the roads less travelled to Kirriemuir, picking up quirky facts about the different places along the way and thence on to a very busy Glamis Castle. Joined by a new member from Perth, we enjoyed an exclusive tour from a wonderful guide for our group. The birthplace of Queen Elizabeth, our late queen’s mother, and the late Princess Margaret, the castle retains strong links with our modern royal family. After a snack we set off again, climbing gradually up through beautiful Glenisla to Glenshee, past the old Devil’s Elbow road, over the Cairnwell Pass and the Glenshee ski centre before descending again to Braemar and Royal Deeside on the A93. Hungry again, we concluded with a meal at the Clachan Inn in Ballater. As we left we met a French couple on holiday who could not believe that a small town like Ballater could have so many Jaguars!
