Ladies Day 2023
Sunday 20th August saw our annual Ladies’ Day outing. Glorious weather welcomed us to the Kellockbank Garden Centre, which has become our meeting place for trips to west Aberdeenshire and Moray. 8 couples came along in 3 modern XKs, 3 XK8s, 1 XJS, and one F type. Our route took us north through Turriff before turning west past Aberchirder and then dropping down to the Moray coast through picturesque rolling farmland. We continued through Cullen, Elgin and Forres before stopping at Brodie Countryfare for lunch and retail therapy. The highlight of the trip though, was a visit to Morayvia, an aviation museum next to the former RAF Kinloss. A fascinating display of artefacts awaited us from examples of aero military equipment to complete aircraft. RAF Kinloss played a crucial role in Reconnaissance and Search and Rescue in peacetime, and we were able to view a working mock up of how the Nimrod aircraft watched our skies. Complete Wessex and Sea King Search and Rescue helicopters could be explored. The best bit of all though was hearing the stories of these aircraft from the men who actually served on them. The staff were kind enough to let us take our Jaguars into the compound and have photos taken with the aircraft, much to their, and other visitors pleasure! Two of the Jaguars were photographed with a Jaguar aircraft! Two hours flew by and it was back into the cars for the short trip back to Keith where we completed our day with an excellent High Tea provided at the Boogie Woogie restaurant.
