We had invited along Jill and Denis Wilson for an after dinner talk on their Rally the Globe trip with Southern Cross Safari starting in Kenya and ending up in Tanzania.
The rally took 20 plus vintage and classic cars on a gruelling 19 day 2000 mile adventure through mountains, game reserves and private estates in Kenya and Tanzania. Jill and Denis competed in a 1969 Rover P5B V8.
They started their talk by giving us a very witty and entertaining account of how Denis first mentioned the rally to Jill and went on to tell of their experiences that unfolded along the way.
We then saw photographs of the 12 timed regularities followed by a video account of the hardships encountered by everyone along the way. The rally was won by a Bentley 4 Le Mans
Jill and Denis were awarded the 'Spirit of the Rally' award for their unfailing good humour and fun throughout the event.
Finishing the evening off Jill gave us the background of her chosen charity Helping Hands Healing Hearts which is very important to her and Denis and over £270 was raised for this on the evening.
All in all a very enjoyable and worthwhile evening.
