JEC South Lincs. - Sywell Classic "Pistons and Props" 2019

The South Lincs. region returned to the Sywell Classic for a weekend of speed, noise and flying.

Sywell Classic 21st / 22nd September

Six cars drove down to Northamptonshire to enjoy the ‘Sywell Classic: Pistons and Props’ weekend. Members arrived early on the Saturday morning to set up our club’s gazebo and banners in the area reserved for us. After a welcome mug of coffee (and bacon butties for some) we admired the stunning collection of display vehicles surrounding us, which included many other Jaguars as well as cars and motorbikes of almost every marque imaginable. Later, basking in warm sunshine, we watched in deafened delighted as hot rods, dragsters, historic cars and motorbikes accelerated along the airfield runway. The fastest vehicles reached incredible speeds within seconds, necessitating the deployment of parachutes to ensure that they stopped before the concrete ran out. As if the burnouts and roaring engines were not enough to entertain us, there was live music, a flying display, and a variety of stalls to tempt us. Indeed, such was the range of interesting products available that, aside from the inevitable purchase of spanners and cleaning cloths, one member even managed to buy several Christmas gifts! Unfortunately, the weather forecast for Sunday was not promising so our numbers dwindled for the final day. However, the stalwart few, who remained until the clouds really darkened, had fun wandering through the paddock, admiring gleaming machinery of all types, before watching more smoking tyres as petrol heads scorched the runway. A great event.
