To round off June, 11 cars and their crews attended the Baston Car Show at Grimsthorpe Castle, creating an impressive club stand, comprising classic and modern sports cars alongside luxury family cars. Members admired the display of Supercars and the entertainment provided by Lombard RAC Rally cars.
July’s events began with the well-attended annual barbecue, hosted brilliantly by Neal and Davina. We thank them for providing excellent fare, including the now infamous spicey sausages, and organising yet another convivial, relaxed event in defiance of the vagaries of a British summer!
The cool damp weather continued into the following week, changing our plans for the monthly meeting which was originally intended to be a ‘bonnets up’ night. Many of us loitered over our tasty meals, deterred from heading out to the Wishing Well Inn’s car park where we anticipated a chilly session of perusing engines and sucking our teeth about excessive fuel consumption. Instead, we spent a sociable evening chatting indoors, and our chairman provided an update on forthcoming events. We were delighted to welcome new members Tony and Kay and relatively new member Richard.
Finally, 30 members and guests enjoyed a steam train trip on the Nene Valley Railway from Wansford to Peterborough, which included a fish and chip supper.
There will be two new (to us) events for members to attend in September: the Lincolnshire Wolds Car and Bike Show, alongside the Lombard Rally Festival at Revesby; and a visit to the WW2 sector ops museum at RAF Digby.
