JEC South Lincs - October News
To round off September, members embarked on a treasure hunt, which involved walking around the historic market town of Newark in glorious sunshine, seeking solutions to clues while simultaneously attempting to misdirect other teams. The interesting trail saw us meander through the Castle grounds and several quaint lanes, passing the ancient church, before arriving in the bustling market-place where some of us were obliged to re-fuel on coffee and cakes before continuing our quest. Re-crossing the River Trent via the lock gates, we compared notes before driving to The Farndon Ferry for an excellent lunch. Congratulations to ‘The Navy Larks’, who were declared the winners of the closely fought contest. Many thanks to Maggie, George, Wendy, Paul, Leslie and David for organising such an enjoyable event.
We were delighted to welcome Richard and Marjorie Lyons from North Lincolnshire JEC, to our meeting in October. Richard entertained us all with a talk about the history of the Mille Miglia, including the epic drive, in 1955, by Stirling Moss, who completed the 1000-mile course on Italy’s open roads in 10 hours, finishing 30 minutes ahead of second-placed Fangio. Richard and Marjorie’s own fascinating trip to watch the Modern Mille Miglia in 2010 involved driving 3000 miles through beautiful scenery, eating delicious dinners and quaffing fine wine; marvellous! Our thanks go to them both for a wonderful evening.
Members, please note in your diaries that our AGM will be held on Tuesday 11th February 2025 at The Wishing Well Inn, Dyke at 8pm.
