JEC South Lincs - March 2024, Club News

Our speaker in March was Wayne Scott, the editor-in-chief of this illustrious publication, who gave us a fascinating insight into his lifelong passion for cars and his career in motoring journalism. Wayne amusingly described how being imprinted on a TR6 in infancy, and listening to radio reports of the Le Mans 24-hour race before his fifth birthday, kick-started his later desire to make transport heritage accessible to all, especially young people. He discovered his pleasure in telling stories while interviewing people for radio and subsequently combined that talent with his first-love by creating and presenting car-related podcasts for motor industry greats including Top Gear, McLaren, and Greaves Motorsport. After taking on more public relations work, Wayne founded ‘Classic Heritage PR and Media’. He also commentates at prestigious events such as the Kophill Climb, sharing his encyclopaedic motoring knowledge of Edwardian motors through to today’s supercars. Wayne enjoys rallying too, helping to raise significant sums for charity through participating in the Round Britian Reliability Run, and he is a volunteer for the Federation of British Historic Vehicle Clubs, which seeks to protect ‘our freedom to use yesterday’s vehicles on tomorrow’s roads’. South Lincolnshire members are delighted to support this aim by always taking to the road on Drive it Day.

In addition to thanking Wayne for his interesting presentation, our thanks go to Janet and Rodger for organising the informal March lunch. The Carpenter’s Arms at Fiskerton served tasty fare throughout the sociable event, which welcomed new members Wendy and Geoff.
