JEC South Lincs. - June 2025 News Letter
April began with our now traditional start to the driving season of a run to Doddington Hall, Lincoln, where 28 members caught up over a hearty breakfast. We maintained the focus on exploring our beautiful county at the following week’s club night, with a pre-Drive it Day briefing. Chairman, Neil Jervis, reminded members about the basics of following a Tulip route and provided a humorous preview of the scenic tour planned for 27th April.
Thanks go to Carol for running the Good News/Bad News raffle in Julie’s absence. Congratulations to Lyn on winning the wine and commiserations to Jan for drawing her own losing ticket!
Drive it Day itself dawned bright and sunny, encouraging 46 participants to arrive early enough for a chat at The Wishing Well Inn, before partaking of tasty breakfast rolls, hash browns, and coffee, prior to setting off on a 55-mile route. The Chairman and Secretary dashed ahead to take photographs of members driving through the lovely hamlet of Pickworth as they ventured further into Rutland. Neil and Sue then backtracked to the tiny Lincolnshire settlement of Holywell, where more photos were taken of the cars crossing, with a sense of déjà vu, an old stone bridge between attractive lakes. From there, everyone meandered to The Black Horse at Baston to end the day with a delicious carvery lunch. Many thanks to both venues for providing excellent hospitality. The organisers are delighted to have proved that George is wrong; there ARE pretty roads in South Lincolnshire!
