After 38 races the results were: Standard Class – David Geach : Modified Class – Andy Webber : First Lady – Debbie Komosa
Sincere thanks to Race Sponsors Draper Tools, for supplying the prizes
Following a knock out format, there were 26 entrants for the standard class, including 6 ladies.
It became clear after a few races that there were definite techniques required in negotiating certain bends and high spots along the track. That said, there were some remarkably close races within a 10th of a second and collisions on the finishing line, making Formula 1 look remarkably pedestrian.
The heats over and the dejected faces beginning to smile again, the quarter final started. The grid being: Colin Porter vs Andy Webber and David Geach vs Debbie Komosa.
Close racing and some aggression created a number of “offs” however Colin and David managed to win their place in the final.
Issues with one of the cars on the grid of the final meant we had to source another car, and fortunately for David, the car available was a rather hot Jaguar. After a very tight race and Colin holding his own with the inferior car until an “off” left him half a lap behind, David took the Championship and the coveted first prize.
On the second circuit the Modified Class were battling it out. With 12 entrants race ready (so they thought!) after weeks of preparation tuning and investing in super soft tyres and competition copper braids, the race was on.
Following complaints from drivers the marshals were constantly on the track, however most of the issues were car related. After close competition throughout the evening the final was down to Gary from Swallows Racing and Andy Webber. With little track time remaining the strain was beginning to show, but with the skill of the Welshman, Andy managed to win with a clear 2 seconds.
Thanks all for making this inaugural Scalextric Tournament a resounding success and great fun.
Time to start getting ready for 2021!
