JEC Grampian visit to Ted Riley Classics
About a dozen or so members of Grampian region visited local classic car specialists Ted Riley Classics for a fascinating insight into classic car maintenance, repair and restoration. Ted was ably assisted by son Edward and wife, Fiona who put on a tremendous banquet of fish and chips for those attending. Ted Riley Classics are local classic car specialist offering many services for classic car owners of all types and ages. This includes service and repair or restoring customer's classic cars. They have experience of a wide range of vehicles, including Motorbikes, Tractors, Military & Classic Commercial Vehicles as well as cars. During our visit we saw their two main areas of operation and by splitting into two groups, one group was shown around their workshop while the other group saw their metal fabrication and engine building facilities in the old smithy building and then the two groups swapped. It was fascinating seeing and hearing about how to fabricate body panels from sheet material and equally about bending ash for wooden bodies. There was an interesting conversation about distributors in the engine building area next to a freshly built engine. We were then given a tour of the workshop. The cars being worked on included the following: An American fire engine being converted into a huge 2 seater car, a speedex Austin 7, Ted’s Bugatti replica with Jaguar XK engine, Bugati type 33b, Austin 7, Rolls Royce 20 doctors coupe, Jaguar Mk 2, Ford Model A, Willis Jeep, AC Cobra, Fordston tractor, big Austin and an E-type. A good time was had by all who attended.
