JEC Derbyshire Region - Report for January 20

This is the monthly report for the Derbyshire Region which will appear in the JEC Magazine in March

January 2020 proved a first for our region, as due to the closure of our normal venue for the first two weeks of the month, we normally don’t bother to meet. However someone suggested we organise a lunch time meet at another local pub - The Crispin in Great Longstone which hosts the VSCC, Morgan Sports Car Club and the Triumph TR Club, and it proved a great success with 26 turning up on the day. Our thanks to Paul and all at The Crispin for making us welcome, and it is a venue to be considered if we decide to move from the Robin Hood. Some of you may know the latter is up for sale, and over the last 12/18 months I have received a number of comments about looking for somewhere else to meet, as the place is getting tired and they don’t seem to be spending any money on it. This is something for discussion at our AGM in April, as it is not easy to find suitable places which are both central for our members and who can give us a room large enough with decent parking. Whilst the Crispin would welcome us, the car park is smaller than the Robin Hood and I am not sure the room is big enough if we get a good turn-out for speakers etc., but it is up to you the members to decide and I will be emailing everyone on this subject shortly.

In March we have Jon Tye, the owner of Lea Rhododendron Gardens near Matlock, coming to talk to us, and no, it is not about flowers and the gardens! Jon is an ex Motocross Champion but also served with the Vulcan Bomber Squadron based a Waddington in Lincolnshire and will talk to us about his career in the RAF and his time in Motocross, so it should be an interesting evening.
