We had an interesting start to the month when 20 members visited Gulliver’s Kingdom at Warrington, at the invitation of Ray Phillips, to see their “Land of Lights” exhibition. We were joined by 6 members of the Rolls Royce and Bentley Enthusiasts Club and as the afternoon light faded, we went over to the exhibition which is in the grounds of the Theme Park at Warrington. It was a fascinating few hours as we walked through all the exhibits and is a credit to the Chinese Company involved in making the displays and the staff at Gulliver’s. We all had a great time and then retired for a drink at the bar before dinner, which again was excellent.
The following morning, we walked across the car park to the Burtonwood Heritage Centre, which traces the history of RAF Burtonwood and was the largest Airbase in Europe during the Second World War. Over 18,500 Americans were based there during WW2 and over 70,000 service personnel served there in its 54-year history until it closed in 1993.This was an extremely important base during the Second World War and although the Centre is relatively small it has a fascinating array of memorabilia and items donated by many individuals and we would thoroughly recommend any other local groups to visit there. It is free to enter, and you will be made very welcome by the volunteers and details can be found on their web site at www.rafburtonwoodheritagecentr...
At our February meeting we had 31 attend and welcomed two new members, Peter Forster and Terry Simpson and hope to see you both again during the year. Our 2024 programme is now finalised and trust there is something for everyone during the year.
