JEC Derbyshire Region February 2020 Report

This is the February 2020 report for The Derbyshire Region which will appear in the magazine for April.

This month we changed our regular meeting venue, as the Robin Hood is closed for refurbishment and not due to open until March, plus there will be new tenants, so we will see what develops. We have been considering a move away from there as it has become very tired over the last 12 months and clearly needed money spending on the place but the closure has prompted us to look elsewhere.

As many Regions know, finding a suitable venue is not easy, as we need decent parking plus somewhere with a separate room of reasonable size. We have used The Crispin in the past and they make us very welcome, and whilst the room is not bad if we get over 35 it is a problem, and for our February meeting we had 40 people. This was not surprising as Nigel and Pauline Thorley paid us a visit and we had one of his excellent talks, this time about his cars, 152 and still counting!!

Most of us are amazed at how many he has managed to own and for some it brought back memories of early Fords and Vauxhalls plus many more and we thank him for a most entertaining evening.

Our new venue is The Devonshire Arms in Baslow, and they looked after us extremely well. This will be out new home for the foreseeable future. They have confirmed we are very welcome and our meeting dates don’t clash and the place is far better than the RH, so we hope to see as many of you there this year as possible.
