Monday 18th February 2019

Hello reader,

We're back for the start of our monthly Club meetings, it seems an age since our last one of 2018. We're back at the Phoenix Sports & Social Club tonight from 8pm and hope you can join us.

Club night Monday 19th November 2018

Hello everyone, Apologies for the lack of article in the November magazine. It was really one of those read the instructions things, the submission deadline was brought forward and despite our very patient and hard working Regional Magazine Editor (Carol Abbott) making it clear, I missed it! Anyway club night is still on this month, 19th November, and it is our final one of the year. We hope that you are able to make it. As Christmas falls so close to our club night in December we took the decision not hold it. Carol

What we've been up to...

After a none to great start to the year hopefully things are starting to turn the corner. It seemed that every time we had a Club night, the weather was out there to scupper us but I wholeheartedly thank everyone who came out.

To those members who are on our emailing list, please can you confirm that you received the update which was sent out 17/05/18. It has been advised to us that some of the updates that have been sent in the past have ended up in junk email boxes. If you would like to be included in our updates, please drop a line to [email protected]

We will then be able to let you know about more than we can include in the magazine, better still come along to the Phoenix Sports & Social Club on the 3rd Monday of the month and we can then put a face to the name.

Club Night 16th July 2018 - Car of the Day (or Bonnets Up for longer standing members)

Yes Monday 16th July it's an early one again this month.

With the good weather set to continue it's time to get the buckets and wax out, although it may be a case of waterless cleaning sprays. Hmm, it could be a good opportunity to do a review of those!

We look forward to welcoming you at the Phoenix around 8pm

Wroxall Abbey JEC gathering 1st July 2018

We hope to see you there, come and say hello. If you don't see me as a welcome marshal then pop along to the Regional display and were next to Notts & Borders.

Carol

Club night 21st May 2018 - Guest visitor - Patch Jobson

Patch Jobson the Club's Regional Co-Coordinator came to visit and update us on what the JEC and it's Regions are up to. So this was a great opportunity to say hello and catch up with us.

Drive it Day 22nd April 2018 - The Highs, the Lows and the Roller Coaster!!!

We had a small turn out of 4 cars (including mine) and 9 participants. We also had 5 sets of apologies and 1 almost participant who got lost enroute to us.

The route was a joint effort between Phil Hiles and myself. The route, Rotherham to the Humber Bridge using only A and B roads. Part 1 (my bit) was Brinsworth, Maltby, Bawtry, Finningley stopping for lunch at the Water Wheel tearoom at Howden (highly recommended by the way). We were not the only car club using the tearoom for Drive it Day. The Austin car club were there earlier in the day and were still around when we got there. There was also a maroon series 2 E-type in the car park when we arrived. Sadly, not a JEC member but definitely a kindred spirit. The owner, Andy, made us very welcome and invited us to come back again. Part 2 (Phil’s bit), borrowed from last year’s Forum Weekend; on to Market Weighton, South Newbald, Welton and on to our final destination, the Humber Bridge.

The highs – the company, the sights and the good food.

The lows – the weather but to be honest it was exactly as predicted, rain as we set off but it cleared up after about an hour. With me leading the pack, all went well until starting the second half of the route when my carefully plotted sat-nav route decided not to work leaving me to use the back up one – Anthony. Anthony hates map reading but did the job. After a particularly narrow, winding section, the road opened up and with relief Bob Thompson took the lead.

The roller coaster – Luckily Bob’s sat-nav programming was up to the challenge, that and he did the route with the JEC last year! Anyway, as I said, the road opened up and so did Bob’s throttle. Fortunately, Bob has a teal blue (probably not the correct colour definition but you get the picture) XJR and is therefore easy to spot. He went up a hill, over it and disappeared into a hidden dip which will now forever be known as ‘the Rollercoaster’’. We did arrive safely at the Humber Bridge visitors centre and stretched our legs before making the much quicker, motorway, journey home again.

I’ve had positive feedback from everyone with the general highlight being the particularly narrow, by which I mean single track, road and the startled look on a couple of cyclists coming from the other direction. All part of the fun of Jaguars on tour.
