Writing this on an abnormally sunny May bank holiday weekend, we went to Bardwell 'Cars on the Green' yesterday. The coffee stalls and ice creams were selling well, the 40's singers doing their thing and a wide array of cars in attendance. It really did seem that normality had returned. Certainly the weather had brought the public out, and it looked like an event from any other year apart from 2020. You could even purchase a Bentley Continental R for £55000 should you have a garage and pockets big enough.
So with the hint of a normal summer, it was a shame to learn that Weeting Steam Fair had been cancelled, citing extra insurance and toilet cleaning costs. Karen has written out to advise participants, but if you still have it on your calendar for 18 July, cross it off now! We are still hoping that the Boris roadmap will allow our first meeting to take place on 5 July and Bardwell showed there is a pent up demand - from the public as well as participants - for the car shows to resume.
A trip to the H and H auction preview at Duxford also made an interesting afternoon this month. It is possible to get in the cars at H and H, unlike the far less salubrious surroundings of the sheds at Anglian Car Auctions, Kings Lynn where you can't. How do you know if you can fit into a car if you are not allowed in it?
I look forward to seeing you all soon, plus we have some new members to welcome in to the club that have been in touch with me, so some different cars to look at too.
