Our show at Rickinghall at the beginning of May went very well, despite the rain and hail the day before when we were setting out the field. This adversely affected the numbers of cars attending and one club had four attendees out of a promised fourteen. The four were rather peeved about the non attendees, but their apologies did not exactly fill out the carefully measured row. No such problem with our Jaguars, where we managed to have an impressive three rows. This included a few guests, including Lorraine and Bruce of Birds Eye View fame and they were charming throughout. At the end of the day, Lorraine was invited to draw the raffle. We also awarded a prize to the car which had gained the most votes during the day from the public. Third was a lovely E type, second a well known SS, but clearly the public liked 'cute' on the day, because the most votes went to a stunning little Fiat 500 Arbarth. We learnt some lessons, and a lot of work went into it, but the show is on again for next year, on 17yh May. The Village Hall committee were particularly impressed by the way the members all got cracking at the end to clear up - perhaps a reflection of the camaraderie in the JEC - and the hall and field were left in immaculate order.
The show season is now getting into full swing and we look forward to seeing our new members and their cars at the events throughout the summer. We are particularly awaiting a return visit to Ludham, on the Norfolk Broads, in June, where Open Gardens are accompanied by a car show and boat transfers across the river. A very civilised way to spend a Sunday!
Please get in touch with the organiser as listed on the schedule to book places on the car shows if you have not already got your name down, and we will also require deposits for the November Dinner Dance by July, so please bring your chequebook to the next meeting.
Finally, we are attending Weeting Steam Rally on the 21 July, but I have had a communication from the organisers of Stowmarket Carnival asking if any members would like to bring their cars to that event on the same day. If anybody - not booked for Weeting - would like to go to this, please get in touch with Geoff Short and in the meantime I will find out further details. This could be an alternative club venue for the future. Have a good summer.
