Our Drive It Day trip to Snape Maltings was a success and the weather remained kind. We gathered our line up in a mowed field, to be later joined by a varied mix of cars from the area including 1930s Austins and a Fiat 500 with a key sticking out the back! The occasion was a first outing for our new lightweight club shelter, and its first trial erection in a garden had reportedly taken three hours. However on the day, with perhaps more focus on the job in hand, we got it up in 15 minutes, and all agreed it looked fine.
It was also a first outing for a rather nice 3.4 Mark 2, freshly back from restoration and shown by Clive and Margarett Gowers. Snape offers an attractive location, next to the river and marshes, and many people came to wander round the cars on display.
We are still taking names for forthcoming events and if you do not have a list please contact Karen Porter (01255 435223) for an up to date list. There are many good locations booked throughout the summer – some old favourites and some interesting new venues.
Our May club night featured Taxi Frank with anecdotes of a London cabbie and the June club night should see Stephen Lay from the new Marshalls JLR premises in Ipswich bring along a couple of Jaguars for us to look at.
We had a couple sign up as new members at the Snape event and new members are welcome to come along to our meetings at The Cricketers, Fordham Heath near Colchester. Please contact Geoff Short, Chairman for further details 01379 897164.
