Essex and Suffolk Borders - February News

News from around the region

The Sunday lunch at Clacton Golf Club went well in February, so the assembled diners agreed to 'do it all again ' in March at the same venue, to replace the cancelled March lunch. This is due to the hotel being closed to the public because they are hosting asylum seekers...After all the named storms recently I hope all your cars remain undamaged. Our thoughts go out to Bob H who severely remodelled his E Type when it encountered a brick wall. It will be several months before it is back on the road.

Plans are still going well for our own show at Rickinghall on 22 May and it is gradually coming together. The events list for the year is also filling up nicely, but we are always open to members' suggestions for interesting places to visit and if you have somewhere in mind, do let us know. If it can't be fitted in this year it may be somewhere to consider next year.

We asked the members at the February club night if the coach trip to the Classic Car Show at the NEC (in November) should be on the schedule again; the last visit was in 2019 due to Covid. The response was that it probably should, assuming Covid is not rampant again, so we shall discuss it further at the next meeting and get the coach booked if the response is good. It is always a very interesting visit.

Who knows, though, what will be happening by then? With Brexit out the way and Covid declining out of the news reports, the invasion of Ukraine in the past couple of days (as I write this) has shocked the world. I saw a petrol queue, on the basis that prices will rocket. Numerous army vehicles were on the road.

So let's hope that things cool down as quickly as it started, and we have a good summer. We all need it!
