Following a 'Pilot' visit last year by the committee, the region mustered themselves to visit Thornbridge Hall, Ashford-in-the-Water (near Bakewell) on 17th June. With glorious skies it was a lovely day (must be summer!) and we had a good turnout.
For some reason, there was also a visit by 'Friends of Mog' on the same day, so the reserved parking in the car park eventually became a bit of a 'free for all'. Still, makes the pictures more interesting!
Thornbridge Hall is owned by Emma Harrison. The tour comprised a 'behind the scenes' tour led by Emma's brother Adam. It's a slightly unconventional place because family and friends renovated the house a few years ago, and many of them still live there, either in the house itself or in some of the cottages in the grounds.
The Thornbridge Brewery originated here, but moved out into larger premises about 15 years ago.
Adam makes a very good tour guide, and although he no longer lives on site, he is able to show us several areas that visitors don't normally see. Following the tour there was a food and beer tasting in the cellar, allowing members to taste some of the beers with accompanying food.
Afterwards we were free to visit the garden and grounds. Well recommended!
On the car front, we managed 3 E-Types, including Geoff's 'new' car, Dave and Sonja's LHD Yellow Peril, and Glyn's S3 V12.
