Derbyshire Region - Summer Lunch (1)
Wednesday 26th June saw the Derbyshire Region head to a new venue for our first summer lunch of the year. Some 26 members made the journey to the Oakhill Hotel and Restaurant in Cromford on a fine and dry sunny day. We were looked after very well although sometimes the serving of courses was not quite as smooth and efficient as it might be.
We started off enjoying a drink on the lawn in sunny and warm weather - which has been in short supply this summer! Consequently we were very lucky. Unfortunately Dave and Sonja Attwood had to pull out at short notice because Dave had suffered an accident at home, and we hope that he will soon make a full recovery and that we will see them soon.
There was a very full menu with plenty of choice, so something for everyone. In addition there was also ample parking for our Jaguars.
Chairman Geoffrey mananged to distinguish himself, not with the usual speech and jokes (unless he made them after I left!), but by establishing a new record by consuming two pies in one meal! Firstly with the 'pie of the day' as a main, and then following up by having apple pie and custard! Geoff's excuse is that he is only allowed to eat pie for one day in the year, so he was making the most of it!
Thanks are due to Nigel for suggesting the venue and liasing with the restaurant, and Roger for handling the menu choices and finances.
This has added to our choice of locations for lunch and we will see if we can arrange a vissit next year (preferably after they have re-surfaced the drive which was very rough in places!).
