Derbyshire Region - Report for October

This is Roger's report for October which will appear in the next issue of the JEC magazine

Unfortunately, our October meeting had to be cancelled as all the committee members were either ill with the flu virus or unavailable which is a very rare occurrence, so apologies to all.

As we come to the end of the year, we only have our Christmas Lunch at Biggin Hall to look forward to, but the committee are meeting to discuss plans for 2025 and these will be circulated ASAP,

Our last outing was a 3-day trip to the Ribble Valley/Trough of Bowland and we were blessed with great weather and some fantastic driving and scenery. Our coffee stop at the Midland Hotel in Morecambe proved a bonus as we had plenty of time for a walk along the promenade and some even ventured to see the Eric Morecambe statue located close by.

Lunch was at Carnforth Station, the home of the Heritage Centre of the same name which traces the history of the film “Brief Encounter” and the life and works of the legendary film director David Lean. If you don’t know, he made some of the most iconic films between 1940 and 1980 including Lawrence of Arabia / Bridge over the River Kwai / Docter Zhivago / Ryans Daughter and a Passage to India and the centre is well worth a visit. From there we went on to the Ribble Viaduct then back to the hotel for an excellent dinner. If any other Regions are interested, I will happily pass on details of the route and stops etc. so please let me know.
