"As many of you will know from my emails we have lost another of our members, Chris Hurrell who lost his fight against Stomach Cancer in January. Chris was a great supporter of the group and he and Bernard Hand hardly ever missed a meeting and our condolences go out the Beverley and all the family.
We had a good attendance at our first meeting of the year and a draft programme was circulated and will be finalised in the coming weeks and issued to everyone. We have 3 mid week outings planned, one to North Wales in April, then the Imperial War Museum at Duxford in June and Northumberland in October so we hope many of you will join us on these events.
Our first trip out will be on Thursday 23rd March when we visit the A V ROE Museum at Woodford, Cheshire. This is a fascinating and relatively new museum tracing the history of A V Roe and has a full size Vulcan Bomber on display as well as cockpits from the Vulcan/ VC 10/ Nimrod and Lancaster Bomber, all which are open on the day. We will have the place to ourselves and guided tours have been arranged, together with a buffet lunch for a total cost of £25 per person. The maximum number they can take is 24 so please let me know if you are interested.
Our first trip away is 25th to 27th April, staying at the Quay Hotel in Deganwy, North Wales and this is almost full. If you are interested then let me or Hartley Jenkinson know ASAP."
Derbyshire Editor's note: Chris was one of the nicest people you could wish to meet. Typically, and also unfortunately, he never sought the limelight but was always there in the background. So not surprisingly it took a lot of searching to unearth a photo. The one below shows Chris (third from left) enjoying the meal at Carsington a few years ago. All other photo's of Chris are distant ones, so this is the best I can do. RIP Chris.
