Derbyshire Region - Report for August 2022

Below is Roger's report for August which will shortly appear in the JEC magazine

August has been quite a busy month as apart from our monthly meeting we had a lunch out at Biggin Hall plus a number of us attended the Newby Summer Festival, staying over at Nidd Hall for 3 nights. Regarding the latter, it was a pity we didn’t have someone from the JEC Committee with us, as there were quite a few members staying there but if you didn’t know them or saw them with their cars it was impossible to know who was who, and in fact we met more on the last day in the car park as they were leaving!

Nidd looked after us well and the food and entertainment were good, but it would have been nice to have all the JEC people together so we could mix with others as at previous events.

For our monthly meeting we had “Bring your other car” as the theme and had a very good turn out of non-Jaguars including three Bentley’s, a TVR Griffith, a Porsche 911, a Lotus Elise, Gerry Simpsons SNAFU and Roy and Pat Maskrey’s beautiful Riley 1300.

We had a vote for “the car you would most like to take home” and the clear winner was the Bentley Convertible, but as Justin is not a member (he is my neighbour’s grandson) he could not win, although we did give him a small prize, but the winner was the Riley and well deserved. Unfortunately, we did not get a good photo of the car, so we have included one of the Bentley as a substitute!

Biggin Hall looked after us very well, as usual, and a few met for coffee at Tissington prior to the short drive to the hotel. The weather was good, and everyone enjoyed the day, and we will be returning for our Christmas lunch in December.
