Derbyshire Region Report for April 2024

This is Roger's report for April which will appear in the June edition of The JEC Magazine

We have had a busy month with our AGM on the 9th April, a trip to Malvern and the Morgan Factory on the 18th and a visit to JCB on the 29th.

At the AGM everyone seemed happy with the past year and the plans for 2024, and with the money we have it was agreed we would purchase a projector for use within the group. The current committee agreed to stand again, and we had no volunteers from within the membership so we will press on with the events for 2024.

We visited the Malvern area for 3 nights between the 16th to 19th and enjoyed a trip to the Morgan factory on the 18th and thank Nigel and Hartley and their respective wives for organising the hotels and route. A more detailed report is on the website.

On the 29th we visited the JCB Factory at Rocester, and what an amazing place this is and a credit to the workforce and the Bamford family who have built up the business. It was started by Lord Bamford’s father in 1945, initially making a tipping trailer for the farm industry, then in 1953 he developed the backhoe loader and in 1957 the hydra digger which was an excavator and digger combined and has continued to develop it’s range of machinery and is today working on the development of hydrogen technology to power it’s machines.

If any other Regions want to visit we can thoroughly recommend JCB as it is an excellent day out and our thanks to Glyn and Rita Bell for organising this. A full report and photos are on the website.
