Another month goes by and we are getting close to our first meeting for around 18 months on Tuesday 13th July at The Devonshire Arms in Baslow. Geoff has been in contact with them and they are looking forward to welcoming us back and they have a new menu on their web site if anyone wants to take a look. We will check and report back on the “Dine out club” they were operating before lockdown, but I imagine they want every penny they can take over the coming months, so may not be offering many discounts in the short term.
I now have the menu for our Biggin Hall lunch on Friday 30th July and as before this will be a pre order situation so please let me have your choices as soon as you can, and the cost is two course for £22.50 and 3 course £27.50. There is a typing mistake on the menu which says 4 courses for £27.50 so please ignore. I currently have 22 booked and have a reservation for 40, so please advise if you intend coming as I need to advise them well in advance if we won’t reach the 40 mark.
Following my last “update” I had a couple of replys from members with items for inclusion in this newsletter. One from Tim Court who joined us in 2020 and only managed one meeting before everything stopped. He organizes a Classic Car Show in his local village and this year it is on Sunday 11th July in Atlow and enclosed is a “flyer” with more information. Any Derbyshire members are welcome to show their cars and although it is mainly vehicles from the 1920 to 1990’s modern cars are welcome from the XK8/XK/XKR’s and F Types, so please contact him direct if you are interested.
Another relatively new member Andy Burnett sent me a lengthy email with a lot of photos, one of which is enclosed, of a 1990 Daimler Sovereign he purchased at H&H Auctions, Buxton recently. He is trying to trace it’s background as there is a plaque in the passenger glove compartment of a 25th Anniversary Event it attended at Hatfields, Sheffield on the 7th June 2009. Does anyone remember this or know about the event or the car as Andy would be pleased to know more. I certainly don’t remember seeing the car at any of our meetings but perhaps other do and I can pass on his email if any of you have information. Andy has 3 modern Jaguars, a 2007 X358 2.7 Diesel, a 2006 X150 4.2 V8 and a 2018 XE R-Sport so let’s hope we see one or more of them at future meetings. He also sent me an interesting youtube video, ,https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YCAJI5Pn-VY ,which was a project he worked on with a talented young producer called Scott Dixon. He originally wanted to make a short video of the Daimler but events overtook him and they used the XE instead. It was shot very early one Friday morning round the Peak District and he wonders how many of you can spot the location/locations. I think it’s pretty good and very impressive and it must have been great fun, so perhaps Andy can tell us more at one of our meeting later this year. I have more photos of the Daimler and the 25th Anniversary plaque I can send if anyone is interested.
A few of us visited Jerry and Hildegards Open Garden last weekend and it was also interesting to see the Snafu Project in the flesh. Both the garden and the car were very impressive and we look forward to seeing the latter at the July meeting.
