After the weather we had the previous day (rain, flood warnings, more rain and so it went on) we had a pretty much full turnout in Stoke for the Wedgwood tour organised by Roger, to whom we are very grateful.
With the weather as it was, there weren't too many Jaguars in the car park. Most people came along in a car of another make, including yours truly! However, I had the excuse that mine was undergoing an Aircon compressor replacement, so it wasn't available!
Wedgwood first started in 1759 when Joseph Wedgwood started as an independant potter in Burslem, England. Over 260 years later, the company is still thriving, although no longer in family ownership.
Around 35 of us went round the Wedgwood factory in Stoke on Thursday 23rd May. We had an excellent guided tour round the factory which lasted an hour, followed by a very good Soup and Sandwich lunch.
The amount of detail involved in making the various items we saw being produced was very impressive. Of course, time is money, and threrfore the Wedgwood pottery is not cheap.
Strangely, the item that most people referred to during and after the tour were the 'pet bowls'. Small ones £150, large size £200. One very large order heading for Harrods apparently. Amazing!
Other items could be even more expensive. Tea cups typically started at around £30 each, and of course no-one is only going to purchase one are they?
Custom designed and manufactured items are also sometimes produced. As they say at Rolls Royce, if you have to ask the price you probably can't afford it!
Photo's were not allowed in the factory itself, so apologies if you note that some of these photos have appeared before.
