Derbyshire Region - 'Bring Your Other Car' Night - August 22

Well the sun shone and the cars came out in force! The idea was for members to bring their ‘other car’ for the monthly evening meeting. We hoped that this would be an interesting alternative to the usual car-park-nearly-full-of-Jaguars, and so it proved!

Some kind soul had put a few cones out in the middle of the car park, so Rachel was dispatched to move them! There were quite a few non Jaguars in the car park when we arrived at just after 6 p.m., and we weren’t the first of the JEC contingent either. The sun was shining and the night was warm, which undoubtably helped matters.

One of the early arrivals was Malcolm in his Riley 1300, now at the tail end of a 20 year restoration and looking splendid. More cones were moved and he parked up in front of the pub. And still they kept coming. Soon we were using the overflow car park next to the pub. Who knew that Bentleys were so popular? After a couple of silver grey GT’s parked up together, Roger’s wife Joan arrived, not with Roger but in style with their next door neighbour’s grandson Justin Shasha in a Continental GT Soft-top. Roof down of course! Joan took some persuading to exit the car (see photo!). The car is the 4.0 V8. Lovely!

Rita later demonstrated to us that you can get a set of golf clubs and a golf trolley in the boot of a Continental GT!

Alan Hawley brought along a TVR Griffith (sounding fabulous!) and SNAFU made an appearance, top down of course.

Graham arrived in one of his E-Types, which we hadn’t seen before (he has 5, all of different types!). This one, a red Series 11 FHC, 4.2 Litre which Graham has had for about 4 years, and he finished fettling it about a year ago. It was magnificent and drew a lot of admiring looks and comments to match. It was truly amazing, inside and out.

Hartley brought along his Lotus Elise, and Nigel arrived in his 911.

In addition, several people chose to come along in their Jaguars, so the car park was pretty interesting and drew a lot of attention. The pictures don’t really do it justice!

We had a vote for the ‘car of the day’. Graham would have won with his E Type, and he received several votes, but unfortunately it didn’t win because it was a Jaguar! This of course can be a problem if (most) of your other cars are Jaguars!

Justin received several votes for his Bentley Continental, but the winner, by one vote, was Malcolm’s Riley!

A great night was had by one and all and I am sure we will repeat this at some time in the future.
