For the first time in three years, on the 28th April we were able to head for the seaside! Hooray! Whitby it was then! We met at the Steam and Moorland Garden Centre in Pickering, and so popular was this choice that we had several people attend more than were booked in! Over 30 in total attended. The Garden Centre coped magnificently, and we were all well looked after.
Then on to Whitby. At this point, those who had prepared and packed for a cold, blustery few days might have begun to suspect that weather forecasts can be wrong! This error would be perpetuated over the next few days as the weather steadily improved and the temperatures gently increased.
Most of us managed to book in at Dunsley Hall Hotel, and those that couldn't get in managed to book in to somewhere else locally. Mike and Vicki Horlor also tagged along as friends of the region.
Friday dawned bright and sunny. Your scribe (Hartley) had devised a suggested scenic run allowing people to set off at their leisure. The 'Drivers Route' traversed the Blakey Ridge towards Pickering, and there were several options which were enjoyed by all.
Nigel had researched the coffee stops and also arranged a lunch at the White Swan in Pickering where 24 of us enjoyed a soup and sandwich lunch.
Back to Dunsley Hall for dinner. The food in the hotel was generally agreed to be very good.
Saturday saw the end of the tour, with some taking the opportunity to visit Sandsend for a walk on the beach and/or coastal path before heading home.
Thanks to Roger for his help in co-ordinating the event. Such a pity that he and Joan then were unable to join us due to testing positive for Covid in the week of the event. We hope you both get well soon. Thanks also to Geoff for liaising with the hotel and Nigel for organising the lunch at the White Swan and also researching the coffee stops.
