Be careful out there!

In April, we were delighted to welcome a Trading Standards Enforcement Officer, who gave us a fascinating, yet sobering, talk on frauds and scams, both online and in person. He focussed on vehicle issues, but touched on other common financial crime. Good advice was given and the bottom line was that the criminals are always finding new ways to con us, and that if something appeared to be too good to be true, then it probably was.

As far as vehicle purchase and selling was concerned, he gave us some do’s and don’ts and identified some red flags particularly when buying a used vehicle. It is all clearly a vast subject and our speaker kindly agreed to come back to discuss other fraud issues later.

Drive It Day saw a small number of members cars pay a visit to the Grampian Transport Museum (GTM) in Alford who were hosting a “Perk and Ride” event, with parking on the arena track whilst enjoying a coffee and chat to fellow car enthusiasts. Whilst for most of the session it looked like a GRJEC event, a few modern BMWs and a Clio Sport did turn up! However, just as we were setting off for a pleasurable drive to a delicious lunch at the Kildrummy Inn country pub, a whole slew of cars from the Moray Motor Club (Elgin) drove into the arena. These folks had obviously arranged for the GTM to be the destination for their Drive It Day, rather than the start!
