Qualyfying

A dry qualifying on a warm cloudy Sunday morning our big Jags rolled out sharing a circuit once more with the CSCC Open Series. 2018 Champion James Ramm in the XJS (Class D) was first to head the timing screens, closely followed by Colin Philpott XJS (Class C) until Tom Robinson split them in the XJR6 (Class D). Simon Lewis back in the XJ6 that he had previously occupied a couple of seasons ago, had an off due to a coolant leak which brought out the red flag to temporarily halt qualifying.

Returning to the circuit with just eight minutes of qualifying left Robinson produced a stunning lap for the young Somerset driver to take pole, Philpott was also able to improve in the XJS to join Robinson on the front row, Ramm holding onto third despite a strong showing from Guy Connew in the newly built 6 litre V12 XJS (Class D)

With the Jaguars lined up in parc feme and about to set off for race one a cloud burst of biblical proportions prevented the race start. Three months’ worth of rain then proceeded to fall in the space of just forty-four minutes. Despite a superhuman effort by the meeting organisers, stewards and not least the Snetterton Marshals to get the circuit safe for competition another heavy downpour at four o’clock ended all hope of racing and the meeting was abandoned.
