What is Sayer?
Sayer is the new Jaguar, a "Membership card" as it were. In a press release Jaguar describe the future of car ownership through their vision of what sayer is.
"This steering wheel concept lives in your home and becomes your trusted companion. Sayer is the first voice-activated artificial intelligence (AI) steering wheel that will be able to carry out hundreds of tasks. Sayer could signal your membership of our on-demand service club. A club which offers either sole ownership or the option of sharing the car with others in your community."
So, you don't really own the car, you own access to it, potentially. It also introduces A.I. (no Isaac Asimov theories please), moving the car further into the connected world.
How would it work?
Being an A.I. piece the steering wheel "Sayer" would organise your logistics. Need to get from Bristol to Manchester for a meeting in the morning, just ask Sayer to plan it. The device would then let you know what time you would have to wake up, leave to arrive on time and organise the car to be at your address waiting.
Exploring the "Exclusive Membership" aspect, you would not necessarily own one car, but access to a variety of Jaguar LandRover vehicles, all controlled by Sayer. Maybe you need to be in a field then a luxury saloon would not suffice, but your membership would allow Sayer to organise a more suitable vehicle from the JLR range.
Why Sayer?
For those of you who are Jaguar history buffs, you will know that the name "Sayer" is synonymous with some of the most beautiful Jaguars ever designed. The Watch the video, the E-Type to name a few. Malcolm Sayer was the man behind the introduction of theory that cars should be designed to be both aerodynamically and visually pleasing.
Jaguar have released a video of their vision as part of their "TechFest" that is taking place in London. Watch the video and see what the device will be able to do.
