JEC Attends Techno Classica Classic Car Event

Our very own James Blackwell, Assistant General Manager, was absent from the office last week and apparently it was all in the name of work. He’d hopped off to Essen, Germany, for prestigious indoor classic car event: Techno Classica and below is his “work” report on the event, hmm…

Being one of the most renowned and biggest indoor classic car events in Europe, if not the world, you will be told how special the Techno Classica show is. However, it is only once you have been that you truly understand the sheer scale of the show.

With 21 halls, outdoor areas and an estimated 200,000 visitors over five days, what really stands out is how impressive this quality event is.

The Jaguar Enthusiasts’ Club always takes a space in the Galleria and this year we displayed our E-Type forum co-ordinators 1966 E-Type 2+2 to celebrate 50 years since the launch of the 2+2s.

All's good under the hood: one of our team showing that the inside of a Jaguar is just as good as the outside

Art Lawrence has restored this particular car himself to a very high standard and is a wonderful example of the very first 2+2s he also has the added bonus of having lived and worked in Germany for some time, which proved invaluable during the show.

Being a German show, many German classics are there in huge numbers, from BMW, Mercedes and the VW group with halls showcasing their history and developments, but what’s really nice to see is the large number of British classics on display. And the interest that our British classic received on our stand was very encouraging.

Assisting on the stand this year was Joachim Lausmann (Current German Coordinator), Bernd Lang (German Regional Coordinator for Rhein), Peter Purdom (JEC Chairman), Art Lawrence and his wife Eileen (E-Type Forum Coordinator), Jennie and me, James Blackwell (JEC’s Assistant General Manager).

All's good under the hood

Providing the gift shop, membership help and advice, technical assistance and coffee, the team were kept constantly busy and members from all over the world visited the stand with people from Germany, Holland, Belgium, France, Austria, Spain, Portugal, Hungry, Czech Republic, Sweden, USA and many more supporting the notion that we truly are an international Club.

Jaguar Land Rover also had an official presence themselves with their Classic department focusing on Land Rover, but Jaguar was represented with a TWR XJS and a couple of E-Types promoting their new operation at Browns Lane, providing restoration services.

The five-day Techno Classica show is the perfect opportunity to meet our international members and to reach out to a new audience and this year was no exception with plenty of renewals and new members welcomed to the Club.
