The
compact saloon range was expanded in 1963 with the introduction of the S-type
models. Based on the Mark 2 monocoque, revised at the rear to accommodate
independent rear suspension (and a larger boot area), the front wings were also
modified along with trim. Internally more plush than the Mark 2 with new
seating and trim, the car was only available with the larger 3.4 litre or 3.8
litre engines. The S-type models were dropped from the range in 1968.
