The
range was further expanded with the introduction of the 420 in 1966, being an
S-type from the windscreen back but with a revised frontal aspect incorporating
a four headlight arrangement and shallower, wider grille. Under the bonnet a
larger 4.2 litre twin carburettor version of the XK engine was fitted and the
interior was again subtly modified. This was the first Jaguar to be entirely
badge-engineered into a Daimler, known as the 420 Sovereign. Using Daimler badging
and fluted trim, everything else about the car was pure Jaguar. The 420
was dropped in 1968 but the Daimler Sovereign continued until 1969.
