One of the finest private collections of Jaguars assembled in recent years is set to go under the hammer next month, as Iconic Auctioneers offers the Anthony Hamilton Collection during the BRDC Classic at Silverstone on the 25th of July.
Anthony Hamilton, father of seven-time Formula One World Champion Lewis Hamilton, has spent years quietly building a collection of exceptional cars, some of which are now for sale. Although the sale features everything from Aston Martins and Triumphs to Mercedes-Benz models and Minis, it is the Jaguars that are expected to attract particular attention.
Leading the line-up is an exceptionally original Jaguar XJ220 showing just 3,800 miles from new. Accompanied by a fully documented service history, the supercar represents one of the lowest-mileage examples to reach the market in recent years and is likely to be among the sale’s headline attractions.

Joining it is one of the best-known XKSS recreations in existence. Built to an exceptionally high standard, the car was so accurate that Jaguar Classic selected it as one of the pattern vehicles during development of its XKSS Continuation programme. It offers buyers the opportunity to experience one of Jaguar’s rarest and most desirable models at a fraction of the cost of an original.

Competition history is also well represented through two highly regarded C-type toolroom recreations. One replicates XKC001, the works car that secured Jaguar’s first victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1951, while the second recreates XKC003, the famous car driven by Stirling Moss and Norman Dewis in the 1952 Mille Miglia, where Jaguar’s pioneering disc brake technology announced itself to the world. For more details, see the Classic XK Model Section in the July edition of Jaguar Enthusiast Magazine.

Rounding off the Jaguar contingent are three E-types, including a particularly striking Series 3 V12 finished in Heather. Rarely specified when new, the colour has become increasingly sought after by collectors in recent years.
Away from Coventry, the collection demonstrates Hamilton’s enthusiasm for British motoring. Highlights include a rare Triumph TR5 prototype believed to be the sole surviving development car, a beautifully restored Triumph Italia, three generations of Mini Cooper S, three Aston Martins and a David Brown Speedback GT. Mercedes-Benz enthusiasts are equally well catered for, with a 190 SL, a C63 AMG Edition 507 and a 300 SL formerly owned by heavyweight boxer Billy Walker.
Lionel Abbott, Car Specialist at Iconic Auctioneers, described the collection as “a superbly curated group of cars with real depth, quality and personality”, adding that presenting the cars at Silverstone, alongside the Hamilton Straight, was “entirely fitting”.
The Anthony Hamilton Collection will be offered during Iconic Auctioneers’ sale at the BRDC Classic on Saturday the 25th of July, with the cars displayed in Halls 1 and 2 of The Wing throughout the race weekend.
For Jaguar enthusiasts, it represents a rare opportunity to see several outstanding examples together before they begin new chapters in their histories.
