Jaguar reveals name of new GT

Jaguar has officially confirmed the name of its upcoming electric four-door GT: the Jaguar Type 01.

The new model will be the first production car in Jaguar’s reinvention as an all-electric luxury brand and marks a major shift in direction for the British marque. The company says the Type 01 name reflects both its heritage and its future, combining historic “Type” naming with a new zero-emissions identity.

Jaguar says the new GT has been designed to capture the brand’s “spirit of originality”, with a distinctive appearance and driving character intended to separate it from rival electric cars. The Type 01 badge will appear within Jaguar’s new strikethrough graphic motif where the bonnet meets the windscreen.

According to Jaguar, the “0” in Type 01 represents zero tailpipe emissions, while the “1” signifies the first model in a completely new generation of Jaguars. The car has been designed, developed and built in the UK.

The “Type” designation also reconnects Jaguar with some of its most famous models. The naming convention first appeared on the Le Mans-winning C-type in 1951 before becoming closely associated with iconic road cars including the E-type and later the F-TYPE.

Jaguar says the new model will use a bespoke body architecture and tri-motor electric powertrain producing more than 1,000PS and over 1,300Nm of torque.

Rawdon Glover, Managing Director, Jaguar, said: “We have reimagined Jaguar for a new era, with inspiration from what has gone before. Our engineers have achieved this with a vehicle that looks and drives like no other electric car, yet reflects a unique provenance. The Type 01 name is part of that story – for me, the zero also signifies a complete brand reset, and the ‘1’, our first car for a new chapter, a ‘one of a kind!

A preview on the streets of Monaco

Ahead of the car’s full reveal later this year, Jaguar Type 01 prototypes will appear publicly during the Monaco Formula E race weekend. The cars will wear a distinctive camouflage wrap as part of development testing on the streets of Monaco.

The Monaco appearance also strengthens Jaguar’s connection to Formula E as the company continues its transition into an electric-only performance brand. Jaguar TCS Racing has been part of Formula E since 2016, using the championship as a development platform for EV technology and performance systems.

Jaguar says the Type 01’s “exuberant modernist design, pioneering technology and instinctive driving dynamics” will help define future Jaguar models as the company enters its next phase.

We have a number of highly-qualified experts who can inspect your vehicle prior to purchase and provide you with a full written report. In addition to their complete understanding of the mechanical and aesthetic aspects of vehicle inspection, they have extensive experience with the Jaguar marque which perfectly equips them to identify the unique requirements of specific models and years, something that is particularly important for older cars.

The cost of an inspection begins at £100, with the final figure determined by the time needed and the distance the inspector is required to travel. We can guarantee that your inspection will be cheaper than an equivalent AA or RAC inspection.

This small upfront outlay could save you thousands in the long term.

GETTING STARTED

Jaguar Enthusiasts’ Club Insurance is designed specifically for members of the JEC. That’s why it covers JEC TrackSport events and offers cover for JEC Young Enthusiasts. Furthermore, the scheme recognises that members may have a combination of newer and more historic Jaguars and so the scheme caters for all, other individually or part of a multi-vehicle offering.

Club insurance doesn’t operate the way standard insurance does. While it does still take a vehicle’s mechanical characteristics into account, it also places a lot of emphasis on how the vehicle is used, cared for and maintained.

Club insurance also offers a host of benefits and products that you simply cannot get outside of membership of the JEC, such as member to member cover for example. This enables you to drive your friends Jaguars at regional meets, events and on tours with fully comprehensive cover and without the need to complete more paperwork or ring up and incur costs for adding named drivers.

This way, you’ll be comfortable knowing that you have a policy that fits your vehicle and your usage needs perfectly.
