Sunday 26th April sees the National Awareness Day for historic vehicles, FBHVC National Drive It Day—a date that has become one of the most important in the classic car calendar.
Held annually and organised by the Federation of British Historic Vehicle Clubs, Drive It Day is about one simple idea: using our cars en masse to get them seen in numbers on UK roads.
Every mile covered helps reinforce the relevance of historic vehicles today. Visibility matters—not just for enthusiasts, but for policymakers and the wider public. Seeing classic cars used responsibly on modern roads is one of the strongest arguments for their continued place there.
There’s also a charitable element. Official rally plates, displayed by participants across the country, help raise funds for NSPCC Childline, linking the enjoyment of historic motoring with tangible support for a national cause.
The date itself is not accidental. Drive It Day marks the anniversary of the Thousand Mile Trial, the pioneering 1900 event that helped prove the viability of the motor car on Britain’s roads. More than a century on, the principle remains much the same.
For the Jaguar Enthusiasts’ Club, it’s also a moment to show the strength of the community. Members across the country will be out in everything from early saloons to modern classics, representing not just the marque but the broader enthusiast movement.
If you’re taking part, fly your rally plate, plan a proper drive—and share it. The collective impact of thousands of cars on the road is what gives the day its meaning.
Because ultimately, Drive It Day isn’t just about the cars. It’s about making sure they continue to have a future.
