Jaguar’s forthcoming Type 01 has won ‘The Next Big Thing’ at the Motor Awards 2026, ahead of the new electric luxury GT’s global unveiling next week.
The News UK awards, now in their ninth year, bring together the motoring expertise of The Times, The Sunday Times and The Sun, recognising vehicles across the market, from small family cars to luxury and performance models.
Writing in The Times’ awards report, Will Dron said early prototype drives were beginning to shift the conversation around Jaguar’s reinvention from negative to positive. He highlighted the Type 01’s power delivery, suspension and interior quality, describing it as “the car everyone has been talking about this year”.
The Sun’s Motors Editor, Rob Gill, also praised the forthcoming model, calling it “the most technically advanced Jaguar ever”.
The four-door GT will be the first production model built on the dedicated Jaguar Electric Architecture. Designed and developed in the UK, where it will also be manufactured, the Type 01 marks the beginning of a new generation of electric Jaguars.
Jaguar revealed the interior in August, showing a full-length central spine dividing the cabin into four individual spaces, a low driving position and a slim dashboard incorporating new infotainment technology. A digital rear-view display sits at the base of the windscreen.
The award comes just days before the complete car is revealed in New York on Tuesday 6 October. Jaguar has confirmed the unveiling will take place at 8pm local time, corresponding to 1am BST on Wednesday 7 October for UK audiences.
