JEC Tamar - 25th anniversary of the introduction of the X-Type

An extract from our Jagazine on the 25th anniversary of the introduction of the X-Type

Liam Bridge writes:

Silent, stylish, powerful….I, of course refer to the magnificent Jaguar X-Type known as the new Jaguar for a new generation. It's been 25 years since the very first Jaguar X-Type X400 rolled off the production assembly line in 2001. So, there is a lot to celebrate in 2026.

The story that should be told is, why the X-Type has become a modern future classic Jaguar and not just the cheapest Jaguar on the used car market? It is truly the definitive example of a motor car you can own, enjoy and cherish that carries the Jaguar badge for lemonade money, money providing that you choose carefully while buying.

My beloved Lady Blue, the 2001 X-Type pictured with fellow young member of the Tamar Region William Bridgman’s 1999 S-Type 3.0 litre Saloon. I have spent many happy times working on both these beautiful machines.

Lady Blue’s Details (Liam’s X-Type)

Yes! I did rescue this car 6 years ago. She did not run due to a dead fuel pump and a lack of petrol. I've spent a small fortune on her bringing her back to her best. Anything she has needed she has had and a bit more! No questions! No matter the cost! I don’t regret my decision for one moment to take this car on, and overcome the challenges I've faced, the outcome has become so rewarding and I've kept the promises I made to myself that I would not be beaten and think positively about what the finish line would look like.

Some may say “you must have spent time on that car that is not worth anything.” Those voices in my ear telling me those words are irrelevant to me now. I might have spent a fair bit, over £5,000 in the 6 years I've owned her, but I don’t think that there is a better one out there that has had the love and dedication spent on it.

Below is the engine bay of ‘Lady Blue’. It is not the cleanest or the most concours of engines in the Tamar region, but mechanically perfect having had most parts replaced that are the most common failure points. All the work was done by myself in my spare time which is a scarce commodity these days.

We have a number of highly-qualified experts who can inspect your vehicle prior to purchase and provide you with a full written report. In addition to their complete understanding of the mechanical and aesthetic aspects of vehicle inspection, they have extensive experience with the Jaguar marque which perfectly equips them to identify the unique requirements of specific models and years, something that is particularly important for older cars.

The cost of an inspection begins at £100, with the final figure determined by the time needed and the distance the inspector is required to travel. We can guarantee that your inspection will be cheaper than an equivalent AA or RAC inspection.

This small upfront outlay could save you thousands in the long term.

To arrange an inspection simply call JEC Head Office on 0117 969 8186 and they will provide you with details of your nearest inspector.

Also from our club HQ in Bristol we can give you an official valuation for insurance purposes. Our valuations are accepted by all leading insurance brokers and Companies.

GETTING STARTED

Jaguar Enthusiasts’ Club Insurance is designed specifically for members of the JEC. That’s why it covers JEC TrackSport events and offers cover for JEC Young Enthusiasts. Furthermore, the scheme recognises that members may have a combination of newer and more historic Jaguars and so the scheme caters for all, other individually or part of a multi-vehicle offering.

Club insurance doesn’t operate the way standard insurance does. While it does still take a vehicle’s mechanical characteristics into account, it also places a lot of emphasis on how the vehicle is used, cared for and maintained.

Club insurance also offers a host of benefits and products that you simply cannot get outside of membership of the JEC, such as member to member cover for example. This enables you to drive your friends Jaguars at regional meets, events and on tours with fully comprehensive cover and without the need to complete more paperwork or ring up and incur costs for adding named drivers.

This way, you’ll be comfortable knowing that you have a policy that fits your vehicle and your usage needs perfectly.
