Bring your other car night

Bring your other car night

We have been running the 'Bring Your Other Car' (BYOC) night in one of the summer months for about 3 years now, but I think its fair to say that this night reached new heights in terms of both quantity and quality.

On a beautiful warm July evening, things were looking good. However, we hadn't bargained for Derbyshire County Council resurfacing the road to the pub all the way from Baslow (at least 2 miles) which is the way most members approach The Highwayman.

Once safely into the car park the entertainment could commence.

Nigel brought 2 cars - inside the Discovery was his grandson's electrically powered Gator. Which were we to vote for, the Disco or the Gator?

Hartley brought the red Emira (mainly because the Elise hasn't gained many votes in previous years!).

And then they started to arrive in some numbers.

Bernard arrived in his (LHD) Triumph Spitfire, immaculate inside, outside and probably underneath too knowing Bernard. Pity about the oil leak from the rocker cover gasket, but this will no doubt be fixed by the next time we see it.

Mark and Dawn arrived on a Vespa, which was a surprise, but unfortunately didn't qualify for the silverwear as it wasn't as a car! Good effort though!

John Eyre arrived in a superb MGTA which attracted many nostalgic comments.

Mike Gregory decided to bring his pristine Austin Healey 3000, which quite a few of us wanted to take home. We also had a much newer MG with us on the night, a 20 year old TF in Blue (for a change!).

Geoff arrived in his newly acquired S3 Etype ("not getting enough use" apparently!), and Roger arrived in his (again newly acquired) BMW which for some reason he wasn't keen on being photographed with?

We also had Ray Parkin, non member, come along in a super unblemished restored Blue S3 E-Type which was another stunner. Only 1600 miles since it was restored some years ago.

There was also an Aston, a Vauxhall, Audi RS4 Avant, a Kia and a Bentley among others.

Finally, a neighbour of the pub noticed that there was a lot of car activity so he decided to drop in to see what was going on. Turns out he's got 4 cars in the garage including an Austin 7, an AH 100 and another couple which I can't recall.

I counted 27 cars in the car park, and whilst I believe they all there for our BYOC evening, I can't be sure because the pub was pretty busy anyway with other customers. We had 51 members and guests sign in, which is close to a record attendance.

The most votes on the night went to Mike Gregory's AH3000 (15 votes) followed by Bernard's Spitfire (10 votes) and John Eyre's MG TA with 9 votes.

Agreed values

We have a number of highly-qualified experts who can inspect your vehicle prior to purchase and provide you with a full written report. In addition to their complete understanding of the mechanical and aesthetic aspects of vehicle inspection, they have extensive experience with the Jaguar marque which perfectly equips them to identify the unique requirements of specific models and years, something that is particularly important for older cars.

The cost of an inspection begins at £100, with the final figure determined by the time needed and the distance the inspector is required to travel. We can guarantee that your inspection will be cheaper than an equivalent AA or RAC inspection.

This small upfront outlay could save you thousands in the long term.

To arrange an inspection simply call JEC Head Office on 0117 969 8186 and they will provide you with details of your nearest inspector.

Also from our club HQ in Bristol we can give you an official valuation for insurance purposes. Our valuations are accepted by all leading insurance brokers and Companies.

GETTING STARTED

Jaguar Enthusiasts’ Club Insurance is designed specifically for members of the JEC. That’s why it covers JEC TrackSport events and offers cover for JEC Young Enthusiasts. Furthermore, the scheme recognises that members may have a combination of newer and more historic Jaguars and so the scheme caters for all, other individually or part of a multi-vehicle offering.

Club insurance doesn’t operate the way standard insurance does. While it does still take a vehicle’s mechanical characteristics into account, it also places a lot of emphasis on how the vehicle is used, cared for and maintained.

Club insurance also offers a host of benefits and products that you simply cannot get outside of membership of the JEC, such as member to member cover for example. This enables you to drive your friends Jaguars at regional meets, events and on tours with fully comprehensive cover and without the need to complete more paperwork or ring up and incur costs for adding named drivers.

This way, you’ll be comfortable knowing that you have a policy that fits your vehicle and your usage needs perfectly.
